One Cause of Hand or Wrist Pain:
Pain in the hand or wrist could be caused by several different conditions, but many times the reason is carpal tunnel syndrome: a combination of muscle and ligament problems, ongoing inflammation, joint or bursa problems and nerve problems. Carpal tunnel syndrome can also be caused by issues just with the nerves and/or the overuse of the hand or wrist.
What are the Warning Signs of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
•Numbness, tingling or pain, especially on the thumb side of the hand.
•A false feeling of being shocked, especially affecting the thumb and nearby fingers.
•Pain that travels toward the shoulder.
•If the condition is severe, the muscles at the base of the thumb may be distorted.
A Second Possible Cause of
Hand and/or Wrist Pain:
A second main cause of hand or wrist pain is arthritis. Osteoarthritis is one of the most common causes of hand or wrist pain, millions of people each year have hand pain from arthritis. Arthritis progresses over time causing inflammation of the joints. A person could have arthritis in a finger, wrist or many areas within your hand and wrist.
What does Arthritis in the Wrist and/or Hand Feel Like?
•Joint pain that may feel “dull.”
•A burning sensation in your hand or wrist.
•Pain that occurs when gripping or grasping something with your hand.
•Noticeable swelling or stiffness in the joints of the hand or wrist.
