Understanding Nerve Repair

Nerve repair refers to the process by which damaged or injured nerves attempt to repair themselves. While nerve repair is a complex biological process, it is crucial for restoring a patient’s quality of life.

A couple of the common questions we often get from patients are, “Can Neuropathy be reversed,” or “Can the damage to the nerves due to Neuropathy heal?” The short answer depends on the extent and cause of the Neuropathy. We will explain how  some nerve repair is possible and what we do in our clinic to aid in this process. We have had a great deal of success helping Peripheral Neuropathy patients, especially with varying causes and severities.

Mechanisms of Nerve Repair:

Axon Growth: Axons, the long projections of nerve cells, extend from the site of injury (damage).

Sprouting: Axons may sprout new branches to reconnect with target tissues.

Guidance Factors: Specialized molecules guide axons toward their appropriate targets.

Myelin Formation: May remyelinate re-growing axons.

Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) vs. Central Nervous System (CNS) Repair

Neuropathy Nerves

Repair is stronger within the peripheral nervous system due to the presence of Schwann cells, which play a role in supporting nerve repair. In the central nervous system, repair is limited due to factors like the inhibitory environment and lack of support cells.
The Good News: Most Neuropathy patients suffer from damage to the peripheral nervous system. Therefore, we can confidently say, if that is your type of Neuropathy – we are hopeful that we will be able help you get started repairing those nerves. In our protocols, we have specifically seen great results in repairing the damaged nerves, depending on the severity of the damage

Several Factors Influence Nerve Repair:

•Severity of Injury or Extent of Nerve Damage: Mild damage could result in more successful repair than severe injuries/progression.

•Distance: The distance between the severed ends of a nerve can affect repair success.

Age: Younger individuals generally experience better nerve repair compared to older individuals.

Timing: Early intervention and repair increase the chances of successful repair.

Inflammatory Response: Controlled inflammation can facilitate the repair process.

If you are wondering, how does this impact me and where do I fit in this grouping, don’t be concerned. When you come in for your evaluation, we do this assessment for you and provide you guidance on the next steps.

Clinical Application of Nerve Repair:

We approach the process of of improving Neuropathy by working to restore nerve function. Nerve repair is essential part of healing and improving Neuropathy. This is how we do our best to help you at our clinic:

•Neuropathies:
Strategies to promote nerve repair can be explored for conditions like diabetic neuropathy and chemotherapy-induced neuropathy.

•Peripheral Nerve Injuries and Chronic Slow-Developing Neuropathies:
Repair can restore sensation and muscle function to peripheral nerves. Because Neuropathy patients loose feeling in their feet, injuries are possible and do occur. Healing these injuries and ensuring the nerves regenerate fast and properly is critical to ensure long-term function. We especially focus on prevention and healing from injuries due to neuropathy, at our clinic.

•Avoid Nerve Repair Surgery:
Surgeons may perform procedures to align and stitch together the severed ends of a nerve. This is recommended in extreme cases. Many patients come to our clinic, trying to avoid surgeries. I am here to tell you, we can do a shorter protocol for your to test if the damage you have can heal from our protocols and equipment. Surgery will still be available if this doesn’t work. While we cannot guarantee success, no one can or should, we have successfully helped many patients avoid surgery.
We have been able to help many patients, just like you, who are suffering from Peripheral Neuropathy take back an active,  discomfort-free life. Our process is both a science-based and logical approach to Peripheral Neuropathy, using state-of-art advanced Nerve Restoration Technologies, all developed and designed to get results for you and/or the people you care about.

Our specialized Neuropathy Treatment Protocol, performed at one of the top Neuropathy treatment centers, is designed to increase blood flow to the nerves in the feet and/or hands, which helps to improve the health of the nerves naturally. This has helped many of our patient’s feet and/or hands experience greatly reduced symptoms, or even return to normal…

We treat all types, including: Idiopathic Neuropathy; Diabetic Neuropathy; Chemo-Induced Neuropathy; Etc.

No Surgery & No Addictive Medications.
