What is Spinal Stenosis?

is a fairly common condition that happens when the small spinal canal, which contains the nerve roots and spinal cord, becomes compressed. This can cause a pinching of the spinal cord and/or the nerve roots.   This nerve pinching can lead to pain, cramping, weakness or numbness. Depending on where the narrowing takes place, you may feel these symptoms in the lower back and legs, neck, shoulder or arms.

Does Spinal Stenosis ever Go Away?

The narrowing is caused by osteoarthritis of the spinal column and discs between the vertebrae. It could also be brought on when the ligaments of the back thicken, or by a disc herniation that affects the space between vertebrae. This is something that happens gradually over time, and there is no cure, per se.  Symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis can be pain in the legs or tingling and numbness in feet and toes. These symptoms can become so severe that even walking with spinal stenosis is unbearable.
